Nokia 5.1 Plus Leak

You might be forgiven for thinking Nokia is done releasing phones in 2018 after they announced a whopping five new phones at MWC a few months ago,  followed by a further three in the shape of the Nokia 2,1, 3.1 and 5.1 that went official at the end of May. However in collaboration with @onleaks we bring a 9th Nokia handset to the party in the shape of the Nokia 5.1 Plus. You can see the 3D renders above and some 4K HD shots and it looks very much like a cross between the Nokia 5.1 and Nokia X6. Please credit Tiger Mobiles for the images.

iPhone SE 2 Leak

It has been two years since Apple first launched the iPhone SE so in the fast-paced smartphone world it’s long overdue an update. Whilst nothing official has come from the Cupertino giant we’ve seen tech specs, designs and leaked images of the purported iPhone SE 2 in recent weeks but today in collaboration with prolific leaker @onleaks we take it up a notch and bring you some exclusive CAD renders of what could well be the new iPhone SE2.

To date, Onleaks has been unable to verify the authenticity of the CAD files used to make these renders but knowing how highly anticipated the rumoured upcoming iPhone SE2 is, the images needed to be shared in the public domain to give the smaller screened Apple fanbase something to finally talk about. Dimensions are exactly the same as iPhone SE (123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm). Due to the rounded corners on the display, it’s hard to give a precise screen size but it will be between 4.7″ and 5″.

iPhone SE 2 – What We Know So Far

It is coming. It is not coming. We have no idea what it looks like. And yet we have an unofficial 3D rendering of the SE2 and a list of features. Such are the perils of an eager industry trying to figure out what Apple is planning to do next. But it isn't all guesswork.

With the price of the iPhone X flagship now an uncomfortably high amount for some, Apple has opened up more room for another “budget” model. Industry insiders are confident that the iPhone SE2 is on the way.

As usual, the real indicators that something is on the way is to keep an eye on supply lines, regulatory bodies needing to certify parts or software, or public statements from people who have been right most of the time in the past.

And even though there is less agreement among those rumour experts than on previous occasions, the general feeling is that the wait for the iPhone SE2 to hit the market isn't going to be very long.

iPhone SE2 – Release Date Rumours

If we are to assume Apple will stick to the same game plan it followed with the original iPhone SE, then the SE2 model will be due soon. The original was announced in March 2016, so now would be just about the right time for the SE2 to appear.

Certain dates are pivotal in the industry. The big Apple WWDC 2018 keynote is scheduled for June 4th. The company has used this as a launch platform in the past, and there is no doubt it will use the event for the same reasons this year.

In the event the SE2 announcement does not make it for the WWDC, the next target will be the annual September event where it normally launches its flagship products. Keeping that in mind, it is unlikely to dilute media attention if Apple wants to launch the SE2 with the maximum amount of media coverage.

So most insiders are expecting the SE2 to become available very soon. This is partially based on previous rumours indicating the SE2 was to start production in the first quarter of this year.
iPhone SE2 – Specification Rumours

You won't get your headphone jack back, but you are probably going to get a little more screen, less bezel, and the latest notch. Apple has generally not moved their design far away from existing models, so it is entirely likely the SE2 will take its design highlights from the model X. That said, it will keep within the same size as the original SE model.

The SE2 will sport the A10 processor and have 2GB of memory. There will be 32G and 128G models to cater for people with different data storage needs. Expect a 1700mAh battery, a 12Mp back camera, a 5Mp front camera, and the familiar 4-inch screen.

The rumours about the back being plastic, metal or glass have not settled to a point where there is a reasonable agreement between pundits.

iPhone SE2 – Price Rumours

There are two camps when it comes to the SE2 price. One camp feels it will be similarly priced to the original SE model when it first hits the market. The other thinking is that due to the iPhone X flagship having increased in price, Apple is looking to raise the price on the SE2 also.

Entry level models are thought to be priced £349 or £399, depending on which pricing camp you belong to and pay monthly deals will probably be around £40 with no money down. Either way, the SE2 model is a necessary move to capture the price-sensitive customer who wants almost all of the iPhone X features without the having to meet that hefty price tag that comes with it.

Taking all the information into account, we are expecting an SE2 announcement very soon. It will be slightly more expensive than the original SE. It will follow the general Apple design philosophy that removes the headphone jack, and introduces the “fullscreen/small bezel” design with a notch.

• The large hole on the top of the device is very likely an IR Blaster, this appears too small to be a headphone jack.

Update: 09/02/2018: To follow on from yesterday's P20 Lite leak we now have a leaked render of the P20 Plus. This render comes courtesy of @onleaks who can reveal that Huawei seems to have tested at least two different P20 and P20 Plus prototypes. One of the key differences was the home button. One prototype of each model had a home button below the screen (not under the screen but a standard physical button below the screen) and the other had no button at all.

Unfortunately, even after days of investigations, it's impossible to know for sure what will Huawei's final choice be… therefore this P20 Plus render shows no Home button. We will unveil a P20 with a Home button below the screen shortly so people will be able to see what both P20 and P20 Plus may look like with or without a front home button. Time will tell if neither of them (P20 and P20 Plus) will have that Home button, only one of them, or both…

Please note: The larger hole on top edge of the metal frame seems too small to be made for a 3.5mm headphone jack so is very likely an IR blaster.

What We Know So Far About the Huawei P20 Lite, P20 and P20+

Renowned for creating some very high specced phones for very reasonable prices, Huawei are becoming more and more popular. Last year’s flagship phone, the P10 was pretty spiffy (though not quite as great as the Huawei Mate 10 Pro), and this year’s P20 lineup looks set to be absolutely amazing. So what do you have to look forward to?

Caution: Rumour Ahead!

Before we get to details, first a word of caution. We don’t have specific specs and details on the P20 yet but our track record with the iPhone 8 leak proves we're never too far away from what hits the shelves. Of course, we won't know everything until the phone is actually released so that naturally means that the below information is based on rumour. Our sources are pretty good, but we’re not making any promises that this is the whole truth and nothing but the truth until we get the P20 in our hands!

Wait, P11? P20? What’s Up With that Name?

Let’s deal with naming issues first. Last year’s flagship was the P10, so logically, this year’s should be the P11, right? Not necessarily. Rumour has it that Huawei might be skipping a few numbers here and going straight for the P20 instead. Whatever name Huawei decides to go for, this phone is going to be a hit.

What Will the P20 Be Like?

Alrighty, we’ve got a few solid rumours to go on here. Up first is the biggest and most exciting of these: the camera set. Word is that the P20 is going to have triple rear cameras. Yep, you read that right. In fact, in cooperation with Leica, Huawei are said to be equipping the P20 with a triple lensed 40 MP rear cam capable of 5x zoom, and a massive 24 MP front cam. If true, this will make the P20 one of the best camera phones on the market.

In design, it looks like the P20 will mimic the iPhone X as much as possible, with a near bezel-less display and that iPhone X notch above the screen to house the camera sensors. In terms of display, we’re likely looking at a screen somewhere around the 5.7-inch mark if Huawei opts to go for the new 18:9 ratio display (which they probably will). And the resolution is likely to be Full HD, so somewhere around the 1800 x 2200 pixel mark (those exact numbers will depend on whether or not the P20 gets that 18:9 display ratio).

Performance looks like it’s going to be very similar to the Huawei Mate Pro line, with that Kirin 970 chip and Neural Processing Unit (which lets the phone anticipate tasks and prepare for them, making it faster). And certainly, this is going to be an Android device, running Oreo out of the box.

Wait, What About the P20+?

If Huawei keeps to the same release schedule as last year, we should be looking at getting a Plus model of the P20 as well. In all likelihood, this will be very similar to the regular P20 with a larger display (6 inches) and better screen resolution (though perhaps not Quad HD). The Plus model could also get larger internal storage, but since Huawei do tend to include SD card slots this might not be the biggest selling point.

Release Date? Price?

For a while there it looked like Huawei were going to release the new P20 at the end of February during the Mobile World Congress. However, Samsung will probably be releasing the new Galaxy S9 at this point, and it’s beginning to look more and more like Huawei are now going to hold off until March to release the P20 to avoid competition.

In terms of price, the P20 should be fairly affordable compared to other flagships. If the release price of the P10 is anything to go by we’re probably looking at around £650 to £700 for the new flagship outright to pair with a SIM only deal and a hundred more or so for the Plus model.

A Brand New Flagship

The newest Huawei flagship should be something pretty special, not just because of its low comparative price point. That camera set could be a game changer. Are these rumours true or not? We’ll just have to wait until release. For once we’re not eagerly anticipating only the flagship Samsung and Apple phones, but also Huawei’s new P20!
