Olixar is back. The popular case maker, with a remarkable track record of smartphone leaks, has updated information on
Having repeatedly claimed Apple would produce a 'mini iPhone X' no larger than the iPhone SE (and produced the schematics to prove it), Olixar says new sources have confirmed Apple’s new models will instead be the largest iPhones it has ever made. In fact, Olixar is so confident in this information it has started production on its official line of accessories.
So what do we learn?
The circa 5-inch mini marvel is toast. Instead, the 5.8-inch iPhone X will be complemented by a 6.1-inch budget-friendly iPhone X and 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus. This backs multiple leaks, including my exclusive last month that Apple had decided to drop plans for the so-called iPhone X Mini.
It also ties in with the leaked iPhone schematics I obtained last week which broke down the sizes of the new, enlarged iPhones in comparison to the iPhone X:
- iPhone X - 143.6 x 70.9 mm (5.65 x 2.79-inches)
- ‘Budget’ iPhone X - 147.12 x 71.52 mm (5.79 x 2.81-inches)
- iPhone X Plus - 157.2 x 77.1 mm (6.18 x 3.03-inches)
It’s worth noting at this point that historically Olixar’s confirmation is worth your attention.
In just the last two years the company has leaked accurate designs of the iPhone X (source), Galaxy S9 (source), Galaxy Note 8 (source), Galaxy Note 7 (source) and iPhone 7 (source).
Interestingly, what Olixar’s doesn’t reveal is the back of the new iPhones. Apple is again expected to use all-glass on their backs to enable wireless charging (with fast wired charged thrown in free), but my sources at Ghostek claim the iPhone X Plus will move to a triple camera.
As mentioned in that report, I have conflicting claims from my other sources which state the iPhone X Plus will stick to a dual camera so don’t get too excited yet. But what is clear is the (currently unnamed) budget iPhone X will cut costs by sticking to a single rear camera like the iPhone 8. It is also expected to lose 3D Touch, which may be the beginning of the end for that technology.
Of course, there will be millions of iPhone users disappointed to learn the one credible dissenting voice to Apple’s supersizing plans is now onboard because it kills any lingering hopes a small, premium iPhone will return.
That said, if Apple is going to slash new iPhone prices by almost $300 then I think most buyers won’t complain too much…
