SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are searching for suspects in two separate robberies of Apple stores in the San Diego area Friday.
The first robbery occurred at Westfield UTC mall at 4545 La Jolla Village Dr. shortly before 11 a.m. The second incident occurred about 30 minutes later at Fashion Valley mall at 7007 Friars Road, police said.
SDPD told 10News' Steve Fiorina that the suspect descriptions for both incidents match.
According to police, three men entered the ground-level store, stole an unknown amount of merchandise and fled into a waiting car: A silver, Chevy, 4-door sedan. Police said the suspects fled with mostly computers and cell phones in both instances.
While the suspects, who appeared in their 20s, were reportedly armed with knives, police said they did not threaten customers or store employees. The devices were stripped from the store's tables when the thieves yanked them from their cords.
Police initially believed the thieves may have cut to cords securing the devices but said after reviewing surveillance footage, it appears they did not use the knives to do so.
Since no one was threatened, the crime is considered grand theft, not armed robbery.
It's estimated they made off with about $10,000 worth of products. Police initially told 10News that figure could be as high as $20,000.
